Competition information

PLOVDIV OPEN – Rainbow of Talents * 27-29 November 2026

All participants must register no later than 15 November 2026.

LEAGUE PROFESSIONAL

For competitors who:

  • train at least 3 times a week;
  • have years of experience in the art of dance;
  • train at dance schools or professional academies;
  • are actively developing and competing at a high level.

Our goal is simple – more fairness, more opportunities, and more dancers on stage! ❤️

Whether you dance for pleasure or aspire to a professional career – your place is on the stage!

All participants may have one or multiple entries in any category.

Number of entries will be on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to the amount of performance time available.

“Plovdiv open”  is open to all amateur and professional dancers. Any dance school, academy, crew, or individual dancer has the right to participate

By subscribing to the “Plovdiv open” competition, all participants accept the official rules and regulations of the “Plovdiv open”.

“Plovdiv open” is not responsible for incorrect or inaccurate information submitted in the online registration form.

The choice of every choreography is free for all participants. We highly recommend choosing age-appropriate choreographies.

Participants/their teachers are responsible for all of their choreography and music copyrights

AGE DIVISIONS

A participants age is considered at the 1st of April 2024.

In duets, trios, quartets, groups and formations the average age will determine the Age Division.

"Plovdiv open" reserves the right to ask for proof of age by means of a passport, ID card or Birth Certificate.

  • MINI /7.00 - 9.99 years old/
  • KIDS /10.00 - 12.99 years old/
  • JUNIOR /13.00 - 15.99 years old/
  • SENIOR /16.00 – 34.99 years old/
  • VETERANS /35+ years old/

CATEGORIES AND TIME LIMITS

  • SOLO - 2:00 min
  • DUO / TRIO - 2:30 min
  • GROUP (4-12 dancers) - 3:30 min
  • FORMATION (up to 12 dancers) - 4:30 min
  • PRODUCTION - 6:00 min

ENTRY FEES

  1. Solo - 50€ for each choreography
  2. Duo / Trio - 30 € per participant for each choreography
  3. Group / Formation / Production - 22 € per participant for each choreography
  4. Classical Ballet Studies - 20 € per participant
  5. For members of BFSDD - 50%

The classical ballet studies workshop is mandatory for all participants competing in Solo Ballet category, and they will be graded. An additional fee of 20 € will be payed for this category.

SCORING

The maximum score is 30 points:

  • 10 points for dance technique
  • 10 points for choreographic composition, music, and interpretation
  • 10 points for stage presence, originality, innovation, costumes, and complexity

Judges may add personal comments to the score sheet.

All scores will be accessible via the participants' profiles after the competition concludes and will also be displayed on the multimedia screen during the event, following each category.

If a participant presents more than one performance in the same category, the performance with the highest score will be used for the final ranking.

Music Backup

Participants should bring with them a backup copy of their music, either on a flash drive in mp3 format.

Stage

Technical rehearsal/open stage will be provided 10 minutes before each round.

The order of appearance is determined after registration deadline, by latest 15 of November 2026.

The competition takes place at the Kolodrum hall, Plovdiv.

Flat stage with linoleum dance floor.

Travel And Accommodation

Travel and expenses to and from Plovdiv are the responsibility of the participant.

Accommodation is the responsibility of the participant.

AWARDS

Best Male Dancer Award, Best Female Dancer, Best Choreography, Best School

Awards and more may be presented at the discretion of the jury.

All participants will receive “Plovdiv open” certificate/medal of participation.

MEDIA

“Plovdiv open” reserves the right for promotional purposes to use any photo or video recording of participants’ performances during the Competition,

Workshops for unlimited time.

“Plovdiv open” reserves the right to transfer the usage of rights to third parties in part or whole.

REFUNDS AND CANCELLATIONS

“Plovdiv open” has NON-REFUND policy. There will be no refunds made to dance schools for a cancellation of an entry.

By registering and participating in a “Plovdiv open” event, you agree to our rules and agree to allow us to send you emails regarding your entries, rules, schedules, and other “Plovdiv open” related items. “Plovdiv open” reserves the right to disqualify any contestants not complying with our rules.

REGISTRATION

Registration for "Plovdiv open" has to be done online through the Registration Portal at www.dance-eu.com

WORKSHOPSThe classical ballet studies workshop is mandatory for all participants competing in Solo Ballet category, and they will be graded. Participants can book in advance their classes (time and date to be defined).

DANCE STYLES

  1. BALLET(includes both classical variations and neo-classical choreographies)Students age 10 and under are strictly prohibited from performing en-pointe.Participants competing in Solo Ballet category will perform in classical ballet studies workshop. This workshop is mandatory for their FINAL grade, as this will be an average of the classical ballet studies grade and the variation grade.
  2. MODERN / CONTEMPORARYModern / Contemporary style should incorporate methods and techniques that are founded within the techniques of ballet, modern dance or postmodern dance, and the use of dance styles and techniques which are based on renowned expression of choreographers including: - Martha Graham, Jose Limon, Merce Cunningham and Lester Horton, Alvin Ailey , Wayne McGregor.Excessive use of acrobatic moves in this dance style may be penalised by the jury.
  3. LYRICALLyrical dance is a dance style that combines elements of ballet and modern. A lyrical dancer uses movements to express strong emotions. This routine should demonstrate balance, extension, isolations, and control utilizing the lyrics or mood of the music. Music with vocals and lyrics is preferred but not mandatory.Excessive use of acrobatic moves in this dance style may be penalised by the jury.
  4. SHOW DANCE / OPENIncludes a choreography presenting a combination of disciplines or an original individual style, dynamic with a narrative and a cohesive theme.
  5. ETNO / FOLKLOREThe choreography will show the typical style of dance from a certain country/countries. A traditional dance wearing traditional shoes should be entered into the national and folklore sections. The folkloric dance tradition must be preserved. The costumes and music must reflect the tradition of the country of origin.
  6. MUSICAL / JAZZJazz dance elements and techniques are required. As long as the jazz dance vocabulary is used, the music can vary from classic jazz, theatre jazz, Latin jazz to modern-day music.Musical theatre is a form of performance that should combine acting and dance. The story and the emotional content of a musical – humour, pathos, love, anger – should be communicated through the choreography.

Excessive use of acrobatic moves in this dance style may be penalised by the jury.

  1. ACROBATIC DANCEA routine combining acrobatic elements / tricks and dance. Acrobatics and gymnastics should only be used if they are properly integrated and do not dominate the routine. Acrobatic Dance may contain flexibility moves or contortionist moves while it must contain dance moves, steps and choreography. A clear dance choreography must be present throughout the whole routine.
  2. STREET DANCE / MTV / K-POPStreet dance includes a wide range of styles made popular in the USA. This dance style can be seen in MTV music videos, advertising campaigns, on TV and in films.

Abusive language and violent expressions are strictly forbidden, both in the choice of music and in the choreography.
